Featured Students: R.A. Brown Middle School Jazz Band Performs for Board

The R.A. Brown Middle School Jazz Band is a mix of 7th & 8th grade students who, along with their teacher Matthew Carr, rehearse on Wednesdays after school. The objective of the ensemble is to expose students to a variety of musical styles including Swing, Latin, Rock, and Funk. It is in this class that they begin to scratch the surface of the art of improvisation, which is a cornerstone of what defines Jazz. Their performance for the School Board on Tuesday, February 25 was their first of the year. They will also be performing at the Mt. Hood Jazz Festival in April, our Proud to be HSD Festival in downtown Hillsboro on May 10, and the Rose Festival Parade in June.

La Banda de Jazz de la Escuela Secundaria R.A. Brown está compuesta por una mezcla de estudiantes de 7.º y 8.º grado que, junto con su maestro Matthew Carr, ensayan los miércoles después del horario escolar. El objetivo de la agrupación es exponer a los estudiantes a una variedad de estilos musicales que incluyen swing, latino, rock y funk. Es en esta clase donde comienzan a vislumbrar el arte de la improvisación, que es la piedra angular de lo que define el jazz. Su presentación ante la Mesa Directiva del martes, 25 de febrero fue la primera del año. También se presentarán en el Festival de Jazz de Mt. Hood en abril, en nuestro Festival Orgullosos de ser HSD del centro de Hillsboro el 10 de mayo y en el Desfile del Festival de las Rosas en junio.
